EMDR & IFS Integrated Intensive Therapy

What is

EMDR & IFS Integrated Intensives?

Accelerated Healing Through Focused/Intensive EMDR Therapy

If you’ve been feeling stuck in your healing process—or if trauma, anxiety, or distress feels too urgent to unpack slowly—EMDR intensives offer a focused, evidence-based path forward.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful trauma therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories and experiences, freeing you from the emotional hold of the past. While EMDR is traditionally offered in weekly 50-minute sessions, EMDR intensives allow for deeper, more accelerated work by condensing multiple hours of therapy into one day or several consecutive days.

What Are EMDR Intensives?

EMDR intensives are customized, extended therapy sessions that range from 3 to 6 hours per day, over one or multiple days. They are ideal for individuals who:

  • Want faster progress than traditional weekly therapy allows
  • Are managing recent or acute trauma
  • Are preparing for a major life transition or want to focus on a specific issue
  • Feel stable enough to engage in focused trauma work but need a flexible schedule
  • Prefer fewer disruptions in their healing journey
  • For those who have a 1-1 therapist and are  looking to process specific trauma, then return to their regular therapist

What’s Included

Each EMDR intensive is tailored to your unique goals, needs, capacity, resources, availability and typically includes:

  • A comprehensive intake and treatment planning session (virtual or in person)
  • A personalized intensive schedule (options from 3 to 20 hours total)
  • Optional integration sessions in the following weeks to support lasting change
  • Collaboration with already existing therapist and ensuring transfer of care after the completion of intensive

Depending on your needs, your intensive may include standard EMDR protocol or be adapted for recent incident EMDR, parts work (e.g., IFS), or somatic resourcing.  I incorporate IFS (Internal Family Systems)  with EMDR intensives as means of enhancing treatment and supporting with building internal resources.

Common Questions about

EMDR INTENSIVES

  • Each intensive is customized based on your goals, history, nervous system capacity, resources and availability. Sessions may last 3-5 hours a day, two to five times a week (depending).
  • After history taking, goal setting and treatment plan is done, we will focus on building resources, as well as doing EMDR Processing through bi-lateral stimulation (I mostly use tappers). Throughout this work I will also incorporate IFS if/when appropriate. This is where the brain will be reprocessing the distressing material.  During the session breaks will be incorporated to match your needs.
  • After each session exhaustion or irritability would be normal, so give yourself time to recuperate.
  • After EMDR Intensives are completed, many report feeling lighter, clearer, or more connected to themselves.  You may notice a change in how you relate to past experiences emotionally and physiologically (are desensitized).
  • Throughout the work you will be given personalized tools for ongoing self-regulation and integration (including but not limited to IFS/somatic tools). Optional follow up sessions might be available (based on availability).
  • If a client has been referred to do EMDR intensives by their regular therapist, collaboration throughout and after completion of EMDR intensives is provided in order to allow for proper follow up and support as one returns to their therapist.

EMDR intensives are ideal for those dealing with:

  • Single-incident trauma or recent events (e.g., car accidents, medical trauma, loss)
  • Childhood trauma or attachment wounds
  • OCD & anxiety-related distress
  • Burnout, relationship wounds, or self-worth issues
  • Dissociation or blocked emotions
  • Those looking for clarity, release, and meaningful transformation in a short period

Yes—as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia, EMDR intensives are billed under clinical counselling and may be covered by your extended health benefits plan. Sessions are billed per hour of service provided. You will receive receipt for insurance reimbursement.

You might need to check with your insurance regarding how much coverage you have, whether you can submit an intensive session as a whole or have to submit hourly.
