My name is Anuj, I’m a practicum student from Adler University currently in the process of getting my master’s degree in counselling psychology. As an undergraduate student, I worked as a student advocate for incoming students dealing with mental health concerns, helping them with self-advocacy techniques. Recently, I worked as a crisis line responder for over a year, gaining experience in providing support to adults from various backgrounds.
As someone with a neurodiverse background, I am passionate about making therapy accessible and safe for all. I’ve spent my life learning to adapt my neurodiverse brain to a world that is constantly changing and can feel extremely overwhelming. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area and moving to Vancouver, I’ve had the privilege and opportunity to learn from and interact with people from various backgrounds and cultures, all trying to understand themselves.
The world can make you feel overwhelmed and alone, like there’s constant pressure and stresses fighting against your growth. I believe that therapy provides a safe space of non-judgmental and unconditional support to allow you manage that feeling and understand yourself and your abilities at a much deeper level.
My approach to counselling takes on a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) lens with the support of theories such as relational cultural theory (RCT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). In these practices, I acknowledge the power each person holds while paying respect and attention to the systemic and dominating powers that may limit one’s ability to make some forms of change. My time on the crisis line has provided me with the experience in suicide and self-harm risk assessment and intervention as well has an understanding and ability to work with high levels of crisis and traumatic experiencing. I practice through a trauma-focused lens, respecting that I cannot know everything someone has gone through and ensure that I provide ongoing respect and seek consent with every intervention.
Please note that Anuj’s services will not be covered by extended health; hence the low rate. Fees charged will be going towards supervision provided by Ellahae Keshmiri, MA, RCC, in order to ensure best quality of care is provided.
